We have been learning about Indian music, including some hastas (hand movements to depict animals in dance. Our Community Song is Never Give Up, from the movie, “Lion”. In the movie, an Indian boy becomes lost and is adopted by an Australian family. He never gave up on trying to find his way home.

Today’s Band session was just a small group, so we got the ukes out and learnt a song which helps to remember the names of the strings.

We have a cheery song for the Final Assembly. Boogie woogie is a style of piano playing from the 1930s and it uses the 12 bar blues progression.

We had a great time performing with 600 students and Police Commissioner O’Callaghan’s rock band, The Filth, 
this morning. It was great to be a part of an enormous, nationwide Community Song.
We wore our new Choir shirts and will sing “Let It Play” again at Friday’s assembly.

Our next Community Song will be massive! We will be performing this year’s Music Count Us In song, Let It Play! with extra help from student and parent musicians. Choir students have been practising singing in harmony, and Yr 5 and 6 students have learnt to play instrumental parts that fit with the song.
This song was written by 4 school aged students in only 1 day, with the help of Jay Laga’aia and John Foreman. It was inspiring to see how they collaborated to put the words and music together.

Congratulations to our Choirs, who were just awesome in their performance as part of One Big Voice on Friday night. We worked hard all afternoon and evening and put on a perfect show for an audience of 7000 people. Thanks to Mrs Iacomella, Miss Dark, Miss Northover, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Black and Mrs Ciccarone for helping everybody all day.
